2.  Wound Disinfectant

Cleaning out a wound is just as important as dressing it. Cleaning wounds can prevent infection and sickness, and will overall speed up the healing process. Wound cleaners like hydrogen peroxide or saline work best for everyday injuries. For easy application, most cleaners come in spray bottles, but cotton swabs and cotton balls are other alternatives for gentle application.

3.  Gauze and Sponges

To soak up drainage and further clean wounds, medical sponges and gauze are ideal. Plus, these items can be purchased in individually-wrapped packages, which makes them great for travel emergencies.


Gauze is also commonly used in wound dressings to soak up any excess liquid after cleaning and bandaging the wound. Gauze rests in between the bandage and the affected area as both a buffer and a sponge.

4.  Gloves

Many people have begun to use gloves as a means of keeping their hands extra safe during the pandemic, and when coupled with face masks, anyone can have a solid defense against illness.

5.  Sanitizing Wipes

To further keep things clean, consider a sanitizing solution to get excess bacteria off of any tools you may use. For example, sanitizing wipes are a great way to clean off nail scissors or manicure tools without worrying about rust. 6.  A Blood Pressure Monitor

The risk of high blood pressure increases with age, so having a blood pressure monitor on hand can help reduce some stress. For those with high blood pressure and cholesterol, owning a blood pressure monitor is doubly recommended, as they’ll need to check their blood pressure daily.

7.  A Scale

Keeping an eye on your weight is important, and not just in case you gain a few pounds. Losing weight rapidly can be dangerous too. You can keep track of your eating habits and weight fluctuations with a floor scale.

8.  Moisturizer

An often overlooked cause of injury and infection comes from dry skin. When dry skin cracks, it can cause itchiness and will even bleed if serious enough. To keep your skin healthy, always moisturize when necessary, and be sure to use a different moisturizer for your face!

9.  Antibiotic Ointment

Another way to prevent infections from dry, cracked skin or recovering wounds is to use an antibiotic ointment. This cream can be rubbed directly onto a clean and dry wound to help prevent any excess bacteria from entering the body.

10.  An Electric Thermometer

This last one’s a bit obvious, but having a household thermometer is necessary, especially these days. If you’re feeling feverish, you’ll be able to narrow down the possibilities of what’s going on with your body by taking your temperature. Plus, you can monitor your fever from home if you get sick.
